What books do you hope someone gives you during the holidays?
November 20, 2012
Just call me Santa’s little elf.
Here at Caleb and Linda Pirtle we are immersed in books day in and day out. We have books the authors and bloggers at VG have written, other books we review and feature, still more books people tell us about.
And we have our favorite books for this year, last year and many years past.
People tend to use the holidays, the next five or six weeks or so, to do much of their book shopping for the coming year. As we all know, books make great presents. They are gifts that keep on giving.
So, I thought I would take this opportunity for our readers and writers to tell us what books they would like to receive, or may be planning to gift to people, between now and the first of the year.
All you have to do is leave your list in the comments, and we will deliver it to the North Pole.
A note to the authors who read this. You should feel free to engage in shameless self-promotion. By this I mean that if you want to tell us about a book of yours, leave the title and/or the link where people can buy it. Here’s the only caveat: You must pick just ONE of your books. I know they are like your children and all that, but restrain yourself. If you list one of your own books, please list another by someone else while you’re at it.
Readers, feel free to list as many books as you like. Also add links to the books’ pages where people can buy them on-line if you wish.
Finally, how many of you would rather receive an Amazon or Barnes and Noble gift card as a gift instead of a specific book? Does that offend the gift-giving spirit of the holidays? (I sure hope not).
For a person like me who is gift-wrapping challenged, the gift card is the greatest thing since sliced bread.
Happy holidays. I hope you get the books you picked out.
(Stephen Woodfin is an attorney and author of legal thrillers. He couldn’t choose just one of his books to list here because they are all his children.)
