Hacked: Special Forces: Operation Alpha by Sue Coletta

Take a ride in a car Hacked and converted into a murder weapon. It may be the ride of your life.
Shawnee Daniels wrongly assumes she’s being punished for innocently hacking the Police Chief’s photos. Okay, maybe not-so-innocently, but someone had to expose him for the dog that he is. When she arrives at the mandatory computer seminar, the FBI enlists her help in stopping a serial killer who’s remotely hacking vehicles while the owners are behind the wheel.
Why he’s targeted these people remains a mystery. None of the victims frequent the same places, some don’t even live in the same state. The only commonality is they all drive Fords.
When Detective Levaughn Samuels is taken hostage—his life teetering on the edge of a high-speed chase—there’s nothing Shawnee won’t do to save him, no line she won’t cross. And when her BFF shows up unannounced with problems of her own, she only complicates matters.
Can Shawnee stop the killer before she loses the only man she’s ever loved? Or will the ride of his life end in death?
HACKED is a Mayhem Series crossover novella.

A story consists of several main elements: Plot, Characters, Setting, Dialog, Tension, and Resolution.
Good authors excel at some of these, great authors excel at them all. Sue Phillips Coletta is a great author. In her latest novella, Hacked, she has once again shown her mastery of the craft of writing.
Imagine, if you will, an almost daily activity turned into a deadly nightmare. What if your car became the weapon of your demise? What if the last moments of your life were the words of a funny, but deadly T-shirt? “I want to die peacefully in my sleep like my grandfather, not screaming like his passengers.”
What if you were the only passenger? Your modern-day car with its mobile communication technology hacked like a political party web server by someone with malicious and deadly intent.
What if the last voice you heard in this life was the killer who now controlled your car and drove you to your death?
What if? Take a ride with Sue Coletta, if you dare. Take a ride in a car Hacked and converted into a murder weapon. The ride of your life.

Great characters in fast-paced suspenseful plot! I’m a fan of Sue Coletta’s books. Her series character Shawnee is tons of fun with humor while in the midst of high octane suspense. Witty banter & dialogue is realistic and the characters are well-developed.
The plot is clever & different. It’s pretty frightening to imagine any car with a computer system can make the vehicle owner so believably vulnerable. Major plot twist toward end comes as a clever surprise.
HACKED is a meaty novella packed with great characters, unexpected humor, intriguing plot twists and page turning pace. This comes from good writing and an author who delivers every time.
This book was fantastic. It is a fast-paced, adrenaline pumping adventure that grabs you from the start and hold your interest till the end. If you love sarcastic, snarky, bold heroines this book is for you. Shawnee is awesome! She is strong, smart, witty and a very talented hacker who is enlisted by the FBI to help them find a serial killer who is targeting innocent victims, driving Ford model cars, by hacking their cars with them behind the wheel.
With no commonalities between victims, no one understands why they are being targeted. Shawnee is working round the clock trying to come up with answers and the identity/location of the killer.
A complication arises when her best friend shows up, unannounced, dividing her attention. Edgy and stressed Shawnee tries to quickly ascertain the reason for her visit so she can concentrate on her job, since people’s lives are on the line and anyone can be targeted if they do not stop the hacker fast.
Things then go from bad to worse when her boyfriend, Detective Levaughn Samuels, ignores her cryptic call about not driving his department issued Ford, ends up behind the wheel with his vehicle being controlled by the killer. Will Shawnee be able to save her boyfriend in time and can she find the hacker before other innocent lives are lost?
This is a fast paced thriller that has an unexpected twist and a sad, shocking resolution you will not see coming. It was a great read!
