Over at The New Kindle Book Review, Jeff Bennington has been putting together something he calls “The Best Indie Books of 2012 Awards.”  A few months ago, he called for submissions.  To qualify a book must have been released within a certain time span.  I think that was April 1, 2011 to April 1, 2012, but I may be a little off here or there.  Anyway,  after  the deadline for submissions closed, he put together a team to look at the books and then released his list of more than 170 semifinalists for the award.

On September 1, 2012, I received an email from Jeff notifying me that my book, LAST ONE CHOSEN, had made the next cut and was one of five finalists in the Mystery/Thriller genre.  The winner in each genre and a Grand Prize winner will be announced October 1.  So the fat is in the fire.

Now that’s pretty cool.

Writers are so used to rejection that it is hard for us to get our minds around it when someone throws us a bone.

I’m trying to deal with it, though.

Within a few hours, I had decided that these awards for Indie writers represent a great opportunity for readers to become acquainted with them and their work.

So I asked Jeff via email if he could let all the finalists know that we at Caleb and Linda Pirtle would love to promote in September, for free, all the finalists who cared for us to do so.  Jeff sent that email out and I have received a lot of responses from the finalist authors.

So for the next thirty days, we hope to bring you information about authors from all the genres: Horror/Suspense, Literary Fiction, Romance, SCI-FI/ Fantasy, Mystery/Thrillers and Young Adult.

I gave the authors who contacted me two writing assignments.  They are to put together two pieces not to exceed 500 words.  One of these is to be “The Review of My Book I Wish Someone Had Written.” The other is “The Interview I Wish Someone Would Conduct With Me.”  I asked them to have fun with these topics and strut their writing stuff for us all to see.
