Daily Review: Revenge of the Hooded Claw by Colin Garrow
December 26, 2018
Linda Pirtle
Colin Garrow is a master at deconstructing and then reconstructing a classic story to come up with something totally unique but still very familiar.
Intrepid investigators Holmes and Watson continue their fight against crime in a not quite Post-Victorian, steampunk parallel universe.
In three more adventures, the tenacious twosome encounters an ocean-going iceberg, an American werewolf, and a gigantic metal fish, as well as facing old enemy Moriarty, who plans to finish off Sherlock Holmes for good.
Adult humour throughout.
Revenge of the Hooded Claw is book #4 in this Victorian comedy adventure series.

With his tongue-in-cheek humor, this story will keep you entertained as you keep in step with all the old familiar characters – Dr. Watson, Sherlock Holmes, and the dreaded Prof. Moriarty.
But then Garrow mixes it up with a whole slew of new characters who move the story along and keep you turning the pages to see how the story will eventually unfold. Brilliantly done!

I have read a few of this author’s books and have always found them to be well-written and enjoyable. This one is no exception. It holds its own.
Sherlock Holmes enthusiasts will enjoy this book. I know I did. The author brings along the familiar characters that we are accustomed to reading about in a Sherlock Holmes story. But, the stories are from the author’s imagination and kept me entertained.
I enjoyed the quirky characters and the occasional bout of laughter they elicited. What I enjoyed most was the ambiance of the story—the speech of the characters, their clothing, their surroundings, and the way the scenes played out.
I also have to mention the fantasy edge of the book. The reader is treated to a werewolf story. I do like the versatility of Colin Garrow when it comes to storytelling.
I highly recommend this book for Sherlock Holmes fans.
