Daily Review: Missing Pieces by Stephany Tullis

People who like romantic tales with all of its crazy ups and downs combined with subtle intrigue and heart pounding suspense cannot miss this book.

As Chandlerville prepares for a series of local celebrations in honor of the annual Kentucky Derby in nearby Louisville, Kentucky, chaos ensues threatening to cancel the town’s festivities.
Rachel Blakely’s (editor of the Chandler County Chronicles), partnership with ex-NYC socialite, AJ Manning crumbles in the midst of their planning for the town’s Derby-related activities.

AJ is the mayor’s wife and Rachel discovers that Fitzgerald Manning, the mayor’s father, has close ties to an unidentified conglomerate of farm investors who may be coercing local farmers to sell their land.

Jairo Aquino, aka Blue, a handsomely, mysterious newcomer is trusted by no one and appears to have an investment scheme of his own. Arriving in Chandler County from Miami, Florida, Aquino has decided to put Chandler County on the map. “His plan was air tight. He just had to find a few missing pieces.”

Rachel and Blue continue to cross paths until they reach a point of no return where they accept they can no longer ignore the sizzle of their interactions and their constricted heart strings that cause them to question the true nature of their relationship.

Can she trust him? Can he trust her? Can they together find the missing pieces?

This is another interesting story about love, trust, and relationships by an author with a sensitivity to the intricacies of making a real connection between people. Rachel [Ray] Blakely’s a busy woman, dealing with her career as an editor in a small Kentucky town with mysterious goings-on that threatens to derail plans for the local celebration of the Derby.

That’s the Derby—as in Kentucky Derby. In walks a handsome, blue-eyed man with plenty of mystery of his own, and irresistibly attractive to the wary, ain’t-no-fool Rachel Blakely. Like so many of Stephany Tullis’ characters, her heroine’s wounded.

A woman trying to make a life for herself, she’s alone but wants more. Despite her wary nature and the events unfolding around them, Rachel and her mystery man, Jairo Aquino, are forced to confront each other. Can they do that honestly? Is he hiding something from her?

Does she trust too much or too little? “It’s complicated,” is an easy way to dodge giving away the outcome of this story. Yet it’s so true!

As one who has read all of Stephany Tullis’ books, I want to express how welcoming her writing style is, and once you begin a story you soon feel like you personally know the characters (sometimes you’ve met them in previous books from her series) and her lead protagonists always find a spot in your heart.

In Missing Pieces, author Tullis shows how lack of communication can fragment an otherwise meant to be partnership. Rachel and Jairo’s relationship is a love rollercoaster. I enjoyed the twists and turns throughout the book, between Rachel and Jairo, and as always was impressed by how well this author develops all her characters.

Tullis knows how to spin a wonderful tale that readers remember long after they complete the book.
