Daily Review: Bless Me Father For I Have Sinned by Kelly Marshall
August 17, 2020
Macho man Nick and his lesbian partner Pat scour the streets of Seattle and Tacoma in search of the murderer of beloved priest Michael Dunne.
A charismatic and popular priest, Father Michael Dunne is brutally stabbed to death in the confessional.
The Seattle Catholic Community is stunned and in mourning for a cleric who served not only the people in his parish but many in the Northwest’s burgeoning homeless and drug-addicted communities.
Seattle homicide detectives Nick Winston and Pat Strom find Father Mike face down in a pool of blood with multiple stab wounds to his body. Because the attack was so savage, the police surmise the killer knew the pastor.
What in his past could account for the highly personal nature of the crime?
Was he murdered by a penitent scared that the priest would break the seal of the confessional?
Or did an illicit love affair come back to haunt Michael Dunne?
Everyone loved Father Mike…with one grave exception.
Review by Sandra Nachlinger:
Nick Winston and Pat Strom are my two favorite police detectives!
In this latest book in Kelly Marshall’s “Winston and Strom” mystery series, macho man Nick and his lesbian partner Pat scour the streets of Seattle and Tacoma in search of the murderer of beloved priest Michael Dunne.
Their main suspect seems like the obvious killer—he has motive and opportunity and a less-than-stellar reputation—but are the detectives looking in the wrong places?
Kelly Marshall kept me wondering whodunit until the story’s end.
The dialogue between Nick and Pat adds humor (sometimes dark humor, often politically incorrect) to the murder investigation.
But when times get tough (and they do in this story), their friendship is strong. They’ve got each other’s backs.
Readers who enjoy police mysteries, books with fascinating characters, and twisty plots will definitely like BLESS ME FATHER FOR I HAVE SINNED.
Although this book is part of a series, it stands alone, but you’ll want to read them all.
Review by Angela M. Moroco:
I have read everything by Kelly Marshall, and she never disappoints! This book is pure gold. I picked it up yesterday from her book fair in Washington and immediately started turning the pages.
Winston and Strom are so good together.
What I love about her books is she never lets any hints in. You have to keep reading to find out “who done it”.
In this book, however, (no spoilers), it’s a SHOCK!
Then it got even better!
She’s an amazing human being and an even better writer.
I live in Seattle, and often when books or tv shows, are “set” here, I find myself looking for errors in the setting.
Kelly crosses all her T’s, and dots all the I’s. She’s on point with location, characters, plot description, and suspense.
All of her Winston and Strom books are on point. Get all of them, you will not be disappointed.
