Calling all authors and rights holders: Can we feature your audiobooks?
March 20, 2014
The watch word in the book world these days is discoverability.
For audiobooks this is a thorny issue.
Even though audiobooks are perhaps the fastest growing segment of the book market, they have yet to find a place where readers can come to browse hand-picked books, presented daily.
To be sure an author or rights holder, i.e., publisher, who uses Audiobook Creation Exchange (“ACX”) to create and distribute an audiobook can place the book on Amazon, Audible and iTunes.
That’s like saying a person can plant a pine seedling in the piney woods of East Texas.
He can do that, but no one will ever know it’s there because it is lost among the millions of other saplings.
On the eBook front several companies have sprung up in the last year and a half or so to aid authors with discoverability. Book Bub comes to mind.
However, those companies do not feature audiobooks.
If an eBook on Amazon happens to be available as an audiobook, and the eBook version is featured by one of the targeted email book promotion sites, then the audiobook may receive a little buzz, but it is serendipitous. Readers may stumble on the audiobook version when they click through to the book’s page on Kindle. That’s a crap shoot at best.
To remedy this problem for authors and rights holders of audiobooks, we at Caleb and Linda Pirtle will soon (in the next few weeks) launch a new component of the site which will include daily featured eBooks AND audiobooks.
In preparation for that launch we are reaching out to all authors and rights holders who have audiobooks they want to promote.
Although we hope to turn this into a paying gig in short order, we are offering free placements for the time being.
Did you catch that?
Not free books, free advertising and promotion for audiobooks.
Since so many audiobooks are invisible now, lost in the forest, we need help finding ones to feature. Of course, we can search Audible and fill slots with books, but what we really hope to do is provide authors and rights holders a special place where they can say something about the book that goes beyond the publisher’s summary. We would like to hear from the authors about their books, feature their remarks along side the summary, etc.
Did I mention this is free?
So if you want us to feature your audiobook all you have to do is hit the contact us button at the top of the page and drop us a note. Then the game will be on.
Oh, and just to be clear, the audiobook needs to be available already on Audible. We will link your book directly to Audible so that anyone who clicks through to purchase will buy from Audible. If you have a book already on Amazon and you are interested in learning more about how to have it produced as an audiobook, give us a shout about that, too, and we will share with you what we know about that process.
We look forward to learning about your audiobooks.
