So, You Think You’re a Celebrity … Chef? by Caroline James

So, You Think You're a Celebrity ... Chef? by Caroline James Purchase:

This book has good humour and some great lines in it. There is also a touch of crime and surprising scenes. I found this to be a lively and entertaining read, with never a dull moment.

    Mix together…

A tough-cookie, media agent who’s clawed her way to the top and a con-man, who wants to open a cookery school.

Add in a washed-up celebrity chef whose career needs re-building…

    Flavour with…

An aging rock star – fresh from rehab, and a Sloane Ranger food writer who gets her own TV show…

    Bring to the boil:

At a Gourmet Food Festival, in Ireland, where anything goes!

When media agent, Hilary Hargreaves, travels to Ireland to look at a campaign for a new cookery school, she meets a blast from her past – the romantic but reckless chef, Mickey Lloyd, who is hell-bent on resurrecting his flagging career.

Her tough demeanour is rocked, as it becomes apparent that Mickey’s intentions involve more than a stint behind a stove in his quest to pursue her. But as plans for the school gain momentum, she realises that she’s developing more than a passing interest in reformed alcoholic, Long Tom Hendry, who owns the crumbling old mansion where the school will be homed.

Hilary has many ingredients to juggle, with her demanding client list, which looks set to boil over if she doesn’t keep control. From London’s bustling, Soho, to Southern Ireland and the sunny shores of the Caribbean, has Hilary got too much on her plate and is she really prepared to risk it all for love?

What’s not to love about this book? For one there is so much food talk. Yum! Secondly, you’ve got a great mix of explosive personalities which make for a humorous and exciting read.

Hilary is a great character! I loved the description of her job. Where can I apply to become a media agent 🙂 ? So, You Think You’re a Celebrity…Chef? does not only have a strong storyline with visits to fantastic places but also throws characters into the mix, that are larger than life.

I loved the whole “cooking” topic! I don’t think I will be able to watch another cooking programme now without thinking whether the likes of Jamie Oliver etc. would act similarly to Mickey Lloyd.

    Review by Nikki Bywater:

Hilary Hargreaves runs a successful agency and looks after celebrity chefs such as Zelda Martin who had just landed a new job presenting a brand new cooking show on prime time television and a book deal.

When Hilary goes to Ireland to look into opening a cookery school with Lenny Crispin, Lenny is really keen to be involved with Hilary and to get the project under way by finding sponsors. Hilary finds herself meeting face to face with her ex Mickey Lloyd her one and only true love. She has a chance to get back together with him, but when she meets ageing rock star Long Tom Hendry who is a little lost and battling his demons, she feels drawn to him and they have a connection.

Zelda is about to begin filming on her new show. This could be her big chance to get back in the limelight, but with an overbearing mother and a fiancé who constantly criticises her weight can she ever make her personal life go as good as her professional one?

What is it with Lenny’s eagerness? Is he looking for much more than fame?

This book is full of lots of colourful characters. I loved escaping into Hilary’s world. There are so many wonderful characters in this book. My favourite was Zelda. This book has good humour and some great lines in it. There is also a touch of crime and surprising scenes. I found this to be a lively and entertaining read, with never a dull moment.
