Neanderthal Seeks Human by Penny Reid

Neanderthal Seeks Human by Penny Reid Purchase:

The dialogue was extremely witty. I was laughing out loud. The narrator did a fantastic job with all the characters, especially bringing Janie’s personality to life.

After losing her boyfriend, apartment, and job in the same day, Janie Morris can’t help wondering what new torment fate has in store. To her utter mortification,

Quinn Sullivan- aka Sir McHotpants- witnesses it all then keeps turning up like a pair of shoes you lust after but can’t afford. The last thing she expects is for Quinn – the focus of her slightly, albeit harmless, stalkerish tendencies – to make her an offer she can’t refuse.

A smart, funny romance, a great story with the perfect narration. I wish that the sequels were narrated, too. Janie’s words and thoughts NEED to be heard as well as read.

This is a really fun listen. On the surface this is a nerd-gets-hot-guy story, but Janie is not a typical nerd and the author does a good job making her character’s insecurities believable and not annoying. Janie is a 26 year old, smart girl that is insecure and querky due to her background.

She starts out having a bad day but meets Quinn, the good looking building security guard, that helps her land a new job. They develop a relationship despite Janie’s insecurities, ex boyfriend issues and family dramas.

There were parts of the story that were predictable (Janie not realizing Quinn’s position in the company), but there is enough other stuff going on with the characters to keep me engaged and listening.

I also enjoyed the humor of this story, I liked the eccentric trivia and Janie’s internal dialogues.

Over all this is a very solid contemporay romance/ chic-lit story and a highly enjoyable listen.

    Review by Boone the Basset:

If you could sum up Neanderthal Seeks Human in three words, what would they be?

    Original, quirky, and fun.

What did you like best about this story?

The originality and eccentricity of the characters.

Which character – as performed by Jennifer Grace – was your favorite?

    I loved Janie.

If you could take any character from Neanderthal Seeks Human out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Janie I would meet for coffee and desert, Quinn I would take to dinner.

    Any additional comments?

I loved this book. The characters were original and well developed. I hated for the book to end, and I can not wait for the sequels to be made into audio books. I normally don’t write reviews, but I felt that I owed the author a thank-you note because I had such a good time listening to her book. Please, please, please get the other books in the series in audio form.
