Murder, Lies and Chocolate by Sally Berneathly

Murder, Lies and Chocolate by Sally Berneathly Purchase:

If you want a story full of humor and twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat and will keep you guessing and laughing until the end, then you can’t miss with this book!

Rodney Bradford comes into Lindsay’s restaurant, offers to buy her small house for double its value, eats her brownies, and drops dead on the sidewalk in front. Then someone breaks into her house and tries to dig up her basement. Next her almost-ex-husband offers to sign the divorce papers, but only if she’ll give him her small, old house and take his big, new house instead.

Suddenly everybody wants Lindsay’s house. Is there oil under the basement, plans to bring the railroad through, pirate treasure buried in the basement? A second break-in occurs and causes her cat, King Henry, to launch into full attack mode, taking a few chunks out of the intruder.

Lindsay enlists the aid of her enigmatic neighbor, Fred, to help solve the mystery while trying to keep her police detective boyfriend, Trent, from getting in their way with his insistence on all those silly cop rules.

On the positive side, sales skyrocket for the special dessert Lindsay calls Murdered Man’s Brownies. Prisoners, murderers, crazy relatives, and strippers are all part of the chaos in this second book of the Death by Chocolate series.

Bonus! Chocolate recipes at the end of the book. Poison optional.

Sally Berneathy has done it again. Fair warning to anyone purchasing this book…Don’t start reading until you have time to read all the way to the end because you won’t want to put it down. The characters flowed flawlessly from the first book of the series, Death by Chocolate, which was fantastic!

The characters are so well developed that you will feel like you have been friends with them forever. I found myself being drawn into the story along with them. If you want a story full of humor and twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat and will keep you guessing and laughing until the end, then you can’t miss with this book!

At the end of the book you will find WONDERFUL chocolate recipes that are so decadent they are sinful! I can’t wait to read the next “Chocolate” book. Sally, please hurry!!! Your faithful fans await the next in the series!

    Review by Silvija Hellbusch:

If you are fond of clever, surprising, and witty writing at its best, you will love the Death by Chocolate mysteries. I have been in the deepest of slumps because of serious health problems, but reading Sally Berneathy’s first two Death by Chocolate mysteries had me first chuckling, then laughing out loud at the delightful characters in these books.

Take my word for it as an English Lit major from Berkeley, these well-written books will make you want to read more, and cheer you up on the way! There is no foul language or sordid sex scenes to detract from the excellent stories.

    These are intriguing and fun!

    Review by CountryMouse 103:

This is not the first book of Sally Berneaths that I have read. She is a good writer. and I am sure I will get all the others. I just love them, so I had to get this next book right away. Any one who doesn’t like it, is not a ‘cozy’ book lover.

Lindsey owns her own Murder By Chocolate restaurant and her husband, whom she is trying to divorce is always giving her fits, refuses to divorce her, then tries to rush it, always an ulterior motive behind his actions. In this book, her husband appears to be blown up in his car with another woman, but was he? Then all his ‘relatives’ start showing up for the booty, or are they really his relatives?

Lindsays neighbor Fred is a big help to her, he is the local computer guru, and then there is her cop boyfriend who is just waiting to be with Lindsey as soon as her divorce goes through. A wild funny read. I totally recommend all her books
