The fast-approaching nuptials of his recently widowed father prompt another old friend to ask Madeline to do a background check on the much younger fiancée.
It doesn’t take long to figure out the woman is not who she claims to be. But who is she really?
While Madeline and her team search for the missing bookkeeper and try to get the skinny on the possible gold-digger, startling connections begin to appear that will leave you following the trail of other people’s money until the very last page.
Meet Cynthia Hamilton:
A lifelong reader and lover of the written word, Cynthia Hamilton turned to writing in 2000 as a means of coping with a debilitating illness.
Since then, she has written 14 books, 12 of which are available on Amazon. In addition to THE MADELINE DAWKINS MYSTERY SERIES, she writes general fiction and some memoir (FINDING RUTH and ONCE UPON A LYME…A TALE OF TWO JOURNEYS).
The Madeline Dawkins Series has really captured her imagination. Madeline’s dual careers as private investigator and event planner to the Santa Barbara elite keep her on her toes.
Her jobs sometimes overlap, as seen in the latest book, HOUSES OF DECEPTION. Release date for Book 7—OTHER PEOPLE’S MONEY—was spring 2022. All of the books in the series can be read as standalones.
In a recent interview on SPEAK UP TALK RADIO with host Pat Rullo, Cynthia shares where she found the inspiration for her novels. You can listen to the interview by clicking HERE.
Review by F. Wayne Markus:
Madeline and her team get embroiled in embezzlement and gold-digging when it hits close to home. Two friends from Madeline’s past seek her help with sensitive personal matters that could have long term repercussions.
Madeline took a reading on Jane Townsend, a former best friend. She looked flustered and ill at ease, but that could be due to running late on top of not having any contact with each other in years. Jane reaches out to Madeline for help when her and her husband find equity funds missing along with their long time, trusted bookkeeper. Madeline must locate the bookkeeper to set things right before Jane and her husband take the blame.
“Madeline and Mike are confronted by Carl, another old friend of Madeline’s. Madeline and Mike remained silent while Carl tries to summon the courage to do something founded on good intentions that made him feel a traitor to his own father. “My dad is about to marry a woman who’s younger than I am. And it’s not just her age or the suddenness of it all that’s got me concerned.”
The fast-approaching marriage of his recently widowed father prompts Carl to ask Madeline to do a background check on the much younger fiancée. It doesn’t take them long to figure out the woman is not who she claims to be.
Madeline and her team start parallel searches for the missing bookkeeper as well as to uncover the “real” story of the possible gold-digger.
The fast-paced tempo followed by the twists and turns of this startling drama will keep you guessing well into the night!!
