Review: Fiona has awakened in the middle night. But she just can’t get rid of the nightmare. The lion haunts her sleep and nothing can stop it.

Fiona’s been having a recurring nightmare and it’s driving her to distraction—so much so that she’s allowed her kooky neighbor, Astrid Dingle, to search for the answer through her crystal ball.

What could be the cause of the dream, and what lengths will Fiona go to get to the crux of it all?

You’ll be chasing dreams with Fiona, Detective Landry and Astrid in this fun quick mystery!

Meet C.S. McDonald:

C.S. McDonald taught dance and choreographed shows for twenty-six years. Nowadays, she resides with her husband, Bill, and her poorly behaved Cocker Spaniel, Allister, on their Thoroughbred farm, Fly-by-Night Stables, near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. George the Pony is a real pony who lives among the tall Thoroughbreds on their farm.

In 2016, Ms. McDonald decided to write a cozy mystery series. The Fiona Quinn Mysteries are quick clean reads for anyone 10 to 110! You’ll love Fiona and the quirky, but oh so charming, Detective Landry. Fiona is a kindergarten teacher and an unlikely sleuth from Pittsburgh. If you’ve never been to Pittsburgh, welcome to this wonderful city! If you live in Pittsburgh, you’re sure to recognize many of the venues featured in the books. Ms. McDonald has even sprinkled a little Pittsburghese into her stories just for fun. Yinz will love it!

Hey! Don’t miss C.S. McDonald’s new addition to Fiona Quinn Mysteries–Fiona Quinn QUICK Mysteries! What’s that? Short Stories (about 30/40 pages) for a quick bedtime read or if you’re stuck with a long wait in a doctor’s office (we’ve all been there). Four shorts in all. Check them out!

Okay, now for something seriously exciting–C.S. McDonald has penned a second cozy mystery series, The Owl’s Nest Mysteries–Meet Alexa Owl.

She’s returned home to Pittsburgh to start a new business, the Owl’s Nest Couturier Shop. Much to her surprise, she’s getting more than she ever bargained for: Detective Bobby Starr, and he’s no ordinary sleuth. Bobby is an angel who’s returned to Earth in hopes of earning his way into the Guardian Angel Squad.

Only here’s the catch: he’s got to solve three murders he failed to solve when he was alive, and he needs Alexa’s help! This series has a little grit, a little time travel, a little romance, and a whole lotta cozy!

By the way, all of the Fiona Quinn Mysteries, short stories, and the OWL’S NEST MYSTERIES are now available on Audible–narrated by the incredibly talented, Maren Swenson Waxenberg!

Review by Glenda:

Crystal Clear Confusion, just out, provides a fun short story about Fiona Quinn, the series main character. Actually, if you are interested in interpreting dreams, like I am, and become fairly good at it, you won’t need to seek help, like Fiona did… You see, she was having scary dreams about being at work, alone, and discovering some horrible monster after her. Each time, it varied a little, but there was always something about which Fiona was afraid…

So when her neighbor offered to help her, using her new crystal ball that had arrived in the mail, Fiona, thought, why not?

Sometimes people don’t understand why they are sad, scared, edgy–they think everything is normal and that they can handle just about anything that comes along. But sometimes, that is not the case… You and I, and, as Fiona, discovered, get irritated, upset, and even talk about things that bother us during the day. But we don’t admit that these things bother as much as they really do. And that’s, sometimes, why we have nightmares…

Actually, the attempt to discover what is wrong via a crystal ball is fun but is unsuccessful. And, sometimes, you just ave to finally face those fears, and realize that things were not so bad after all.. But wouldn’t it be better to be able to think through issues as they are affecting you?

McDonald, gives tweens, teens, and adults a chance to consider whether they can stop and explore what if anything is really bothering you. And, if you have a nightmare, think about what could have caused it…or talk to somebody about it, so that you may be able to better prepare for what comes to you each day…

A fun book, but it’s also a teaching one–if you consider all that was going on and how Fiona’s nightmares were visions in her mind of what she feared most during her days… It would be interesting to see if your children understand what is actually being shared in the book… Check it out…I still suffer from flashback dreams once in awhile…

When that happens, I always make a point of trying to figure out what caused me to dream those thoughts… If your children have scary dreams, this book can be a great way to talk about how what is happening in your life, affects what happens in your dreams at night!

Highly recommended.
