Hint of Morning

It begins as a promise.

Nothing more.

And I await, as always, with great expectations.

I reach the river during the darkness of late night.

But night is ending.

Morning is on its way.

That’s the promise.

One moment it’s dark.

But suddenly the black becomes gray.

And the sky parts.

Someone has touched it with a paint brush of many hues and colors, and that first hint of morning hangs like the broken edge of a gold dollar in the sky.

It’s only a promise.

But it’s the only promise of life that’s never broken.

Morning has broken.

And, one more time, all is right with the world.
